I understand these post get old but my tank is about a month old with all there floating clear, white flakes. It is all over the tank and I have an idea of what it might be but don’t want to influence anyone’s opinion.
Here are some pictures. Please help

Just look like particles in the water column. what type of mechanical filter are you using ?

you need to point a powerhead at the water surface , get that stuff back in the water so it can be filtered out. Flat water surfaces collect debris like that, and also decrease the full effectiveness of the light , not to mention it impedes gas exchange. Agitation on the water surface is very important. So is water flow inside the tank.

Thanks you for your input. I do have quite a bit of surface agitation but will up it cause it can’t hurt and I put the whites on for the photos.
As for mechanical filtration I have really just my filter fleece. The place I got my tank from has been very difficult to get my skimmer in a quick matter they keep saying. NEXT WEEK, NEXT WEEK

Precipitation?
Is your MG low?
I don’t have a test for it. It’s a 350 gallon total volume tank and I have a couple SPS I brought over from the old tank but I put those in late last night (after a dip). All of the water is almost 3 weeks old
Honestly I was thinking that as well because I used 3 different brands of salt to make all the water cause I had so many almost empty bags, boxes, and buckets. Worst being instant ocean salt that was almost 1.5 years old

A filter sock may help trap many of these particles
