Hey folks.

Some months ago I decided to go with a floating reef. I found a picture from a Chinese site and when from that idea to what I'll share now.

Multiple sheets of 1/2" glass later, here's what I got!

What do you think? Every feedback is appreciated.

Wow that is creative. Do you have your rocks yet? I'm curious as to how your aquascape will look

Interested in seeing the finished scape. My only issue is seeing the bracing siliconed to the side glass. What I did was cut the rock flat with a wet saw and used epoxy and super glue to attach it to the back of my tank.

innovative.
help me out. I kinda get it but not sure.
what defines a floating reef?
Not sure of the official definition of a "floating reef" but to me it's any rock that's not supported by the bottom or another rock ( I guess) it hard to see in the picture but I have 3 pieces that are only attached to the back of the tank and float. The rest are sitting on the bottom.

I see.
mine looks like a floater in spots from where I sit viewing the tank.
but at some point it gets back to the bottom.
I used pvc and 2 part putty to construct my whole scape. no live/dry rock
anywhere in the system.

Yes, I'll use TLF Stax in the front, they're lightweight and flat. In the back I'm using Marco Rocks Reef Saver. I hope it turns out like I imagine

I know bud, the side silicone goes against a wall for the same reason, I'd hate to see it. Yours looks awesome, you did it with the tank filled? Never thought about that.

That's the coolest aquascape I've seen

Thanks! Let's see what happens when I hide the glass and add the rocks!

As said above, I think that if your rocks are partially or totally suspended, it could be called a floating reef. If it's supported but the space that the rocks in the bottom is reduced, then it's a Negative Space Aquascape. BTW, could you show us how you did yours with PVC and putty?

No I'd did mine with the tank empty and let the glue and epoxy fully cure before putting the water in.

You want to use corals skeleton or actual live rocks and not base/lace rock. Those are too heavy along with any man made rocks.

this is the 2 part I used.

you make a rubber stamp using coral as a "mold" to imprint the 2 part before it sets.
