Floating Canopies: Let's See 'Em!!!

How did I miss this thread for this long?
I have a floating canopy over my 120gal. (Photo after initial set up in 2012.)

I'm a big fan of the Arts & Crafts design in architecture, furniture and artwork, so I designed my canopy to model a A&C hanging light fixture.
One of the better features of this canopy is that it's attached to the mounting plate with sliding rails. This allows me to push the canopy back about seven inches to gain better access inside the tank.

This is well thought out and attractive! Kudos!

I hate it when one can see wires. I don't care if it's a rats nest behind the scenes but all wires (including mounting) should be out of sight. That in my opinion separates an ok design from truly spectatular. This extends to wall mounted televisions. I mean if you're going to spend the time and money to wall mount it will cost about 30 more dollars to move the recepticle and coaxial.

Made this out of 1 x 10's, 1 x 3's for the moulding and 1 x 2's on the inside for the Aquatic Life fixture to rest on, very simple.

I have painted it now, but still have no pictures. And as far as the tank, it’s a beautiful crystal-clear zero gallon beauty with a very light bioload

I just got the wall panel squares (14” x 14” I think) from Amazon, painted them, then glued them to wall, caulked the seams etc to make it look like a continuous piece (although probably not necessary but I was a little OCD) and then touched up the paint after they were up. I thought the LED light spill-off would look cool reflecting off of them. I am really happy at how it turned out. The wall was yellow before (as I have 45+ colors on my walls/doors as it is!)

I did something similar with my bedroom wall and faux brick panels. I love those accent walls! Great job!!!!!

Yall are definitely FOR REAL.

Here's my humble diy submission. The side flaps are corrugated plastic stapled to a board frame with aluminum braces for mounting lights. I'd do it prettier if I did it again, but I love the functionality. I can open any/all of the sides without moving the canopy. I can also hook it up higher to do major maintenance and still have light. It also negates the need for a screen on top of the tank and housed a nice diy diffuser (since removed)

Wall mounted, I guess that counts? It hangs on a full length bracket so it can be lifted off fairly easily. Its 1x4 frame with 1/4" plywood. I do have to remove the lights but they're on carabiners. I installed an outlet behind them, on the dedicated aquarium circuit that was on my regrets list from the last build (microwave sometimes used to shut off the aquarium...)
