Hello fellow saltines,

I've done a search for floating macro other than chaeto but don't see anything that stands out? I have a suedo sump are in my AIO but it's in no way isolated from my tank. I would like to put a basket in the main sump area and some floating macro (for pods) that is less likely to breakup and get into my tank. Or can they all do this? I could also put on a HOB and do something planted if that's better. If a HOB is more idea can someone recommend one for a 5g? I wouldn't want it too heavy and pulls the tank walls off (if that's possible). It's a cheap Top Fin tank so I don't know how durable it is. If all macro is prone to braking up I might just convert my 2.5g to macro/pod tank. It's currently culturing freshwater daphnia.

I got my ulva from https://www.ipsf.com/

This info from:

Ulva

Forms smooth, ruffled discs normally attached to hard substrate in shallow water. Often found floating in sea grass beds. This is very palatable and can be fed to fish and invertebrates. It grows in rather large chunks and should be anchored to prevent it from clogging filters and pumps. It's fast growing and amphipods seem to love it as shelter. Size 1 pint.

I got my red ogo from them https://www.live-plants.com/ pretty good macro algae vendor as they give you more. Just keep an eye out once in stock though because a lot of people order from them.

My ulva grows super fast even with minimal light.

Awesome. Thanks! I've been trying to get pods to culture in my tank but with it only being a 5g I think they're getting consumed as fast as I add them. I was looking at setting up a bucket but I already have buckets everywhere for water changes. LOL I'm hoping to get something going in/hanging off my tank.

Red ogo or ulva can work. Ulva might get everywhere though.

Great macros! Ulva (Sea lettuce) and various Gracilaria (Ogo) species can also be purchased from eBay, though the sources you mentioned offer some of the highest quality macroalgae I have come across.

Word of mouth recommendations are the best! :-) Will these grow fine under a white light? I don't have anywhere to put it with a UV (or are they just red light?). And should it be a reverse photo period... what is the purpose of that?

I have sea lettuce in my tank and it’s the best, pods fill up the lettuce instead of the walls so I guess it has more surface area for them to hang out.
