i am in the process of getting my late fathers old 72 gallon bow front setup. Right now I am just in the purchasing stage. I will be running a 20gallon sump.

My question is, is this tank large enough to require floor supports? I would really like to put it upstairs in my bonus room, but if I am going to need to support it underneath I need to find a home for it down stairs.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

@redfishbluefish should be able to help. A little more info may also be needed. Will the tank sit parallel or perpendicular to the joists? Will it be up against a wall and is the wall load bearing?

It will be up against s load bearing wall, but will sit parallel to the joists not perpendicular unfortunately.

72g tank should be fine with out floor supports. Think of the weight being dispersed across the whole foot print, it will come to around 200lbs a square foot, which is about equivelent to a six foot man standing with his feet together. Can your floor support 4 full grown men? If so, it can support the tank.
