Florida banning

Funny that they are worried about invasive species when you look at St. John’s county and how much deforestation to put in empty strip malls. I think we know what the real invasive species with the most harm to the environment is.
Their care for the environment goes out the window when there's money being waived in their face.

After the whole snake killing of that poor guys pets i am never moving to florida. I don't trust them to not ban more and more and murder pets. That was one of the most appalling things I have ever seen and it takes a lot to shock me.

This… this right here. My family moved to St. John’s from the Arlington area 20 years ago and the area has changed so much, just in the last 5 years especially. I miss all the woods and country feeling of cr210 from 10 years ago

You do realize it’s organizations like PETA who have billions at their disposal lobbying lawmakers because they want to destroy any and every facet of the “pet” industry no matter if niche groups like us are doing things to preserve species from going extinct. These zealots don’t care whose rights they have to violate to get their way. It’s no different if you are a Reptile keeper, Aquarist, 2A supporter, Gasoline or Diesel Car enthusiast. The Government only listens to those people buying their time, buying their opinion, buying their vote. They don’t poll the people of their districts when it comes time to vote on Legislation they feel because they won the “election” they can vote how ever they please as long as the kick backs keep rolling in. As an Army Combat Veteran I am ashamed of what our government is not Democrat or Republican they are opposite sides of the same coin the state of our Economy should open peoples eyes $15 an hour is the new $5.25. 90 percent of School teachers work two jobs just to make ends meet. Families on welfare make more money through their housing, food, healthcare, benefits than most teachers do and they are the ones preparing the next generation. This country has its priorities all screwed up. We spent more in one year on the proxy war in Ukraine than we did fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria altogether for a five year period. We should not be involved in Ukraine’s war the government and media fed the people a pack of lies, Putin was trying to establish rule in an area of Ukraine that actually overwhelmingly voted to leave Ukraine and rejoin with Russia. So do we not believe in Democracy any more. Also our budget to providing Security to the UN is bigger than our National Defense budget we could end homelessness in our own country if we brought those funds back to our soil. Our National Debt would be in the Trillions we could balance the budget pay off our debt, if we stopped policing the world. It’s not our soldiers jobs to go fight and die for foreign leaders and foreign nations. The founding fathers fought against big government, they fought against government overreach, and here we are sheep to the slaughter not even 250 years later. Sorry for the rant if you read this far God bless and keep your babies safe.
since you put a lot of ideas out there its hard to like or dislike the comment. IMHO - the problem is idiots that bought xxx and released it because they were stupid (Into the wild). Its not groups (though I don't agree with PETA- Who have years considered keeping aquariums as animal cruelty)

For my people in Florida, opinions?

They touched on a VERY important subject! Their are a lot of good LFS out there but there are a few that doesn’t care about the livestock (or you for that matter). They only care about the sale.

Which is why I always tell everyone who tells me they’re wanting to do saltwater to do their research. Not just google, but here on R2R, and other forums. I’ve found in my experiences that forums are the way to go!

I really believe there needs to more education about different livestock and their compatibilities with tanks and/or other livestock. I sincerely hope they release a black list instead, but honestly I’ve seen this coming for a few years now.

It’s just general apathy. The vast majority of residents don’t care about these issues.

Yet when it came to a bear hunt the whole state had protests and after one year the FWC caved and shut it down again. That’s after all the science said bears need to be culled.

The real issue is the masses are too easily swayed by their feelings and not by reason. With one press release the FWC could easily convince the masses that keeping non native fish in Florida is a bad idea, no matter what the evidence proves.

That and fish and reptile people get labeled as weirdos. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Funny part about that is that the science is all about what’s convenient for people. The bear population will naturally cull itself, but the population started to infringe into human population centers, thus became an issue. In other words they were inconvenient.

Not saying there isn’t people releasing animals, but some of the species that are out there were either released by FWC, for example peacock bass. Or they were let out from natural disasters like hurricane Andrew. We would probably see a rise in releases if people think their fish are illegal due to the potential whitelist ban.

I doubt this will affect fish stores here. $$$ talks and WWC, TSA, and LRO are hugh stores here along with other big stores in Miami.
They are nobodies compared to real estate developers in Florida. That combined with special interest groups like PETA are the money behind these agenda items. Lastly, it's sounds good to environmentalist and general public who believe the politicians are doing something to lessen the effect of invasive species. Sounds great on a political ad. "Mario Rubio, fighting to protect Florida's environment!"

The conservation model in the USA when it comes to game animals (like deer, turkey, bears, etc.) is funded predominantly from hunting gear and license sales.

No need for bears to be “culled naturally” through disease, starvation, human encounters, car wrecks, etc. when the state could just allow a hunt for them once a year. Profitable for the state and healthy for the bears. It’s a win win for everyone.
