I have an orange and blue that I have been growing for a while. My plan was to keep it in a cup over gravel so I could cut it in half a few times to share with a friend. I cut it in half once a while back. The blue coloring was the outside rim and the inside was orange. Now it appears those 2 split on their own because the blue rim is now 4. However when I look at the shrooms it still appears at the base to be just 1 shroom. I am sorry if I am making this confusing. Here is a pic and I circled the 2 independent shrooms. But if you look at the red circled one it appears to be 2 from the blue rims.

I was thinking maybe if these were on rock the foot would just tear apart on its own and separate but since they are free on gravel maybe it can’t pull apart?

It makes sense to me that with loose gravel it wouldn't be able to pull itself apart like it normally would attached to rock. Nice Ric's btw, Im starting a collection myself . Love em!
