Florida's corals dropped in numbers due to unseasonably cold weather conditions in 2010. The chilly January temperatures caused the most catastrophic loss of corals within the Florida Reef Tract, which spans 160 miles (260 kilometers) from Miami to the Dry Tortugas and is the only living barrier reef in the continental U.S.

I do not want to shrug this study off as just another doomsday type thing but. I feel things like this really get blown out of proportion. Sure that is a lot of loss but this is not the first time these kind of cold snaps have happened nor will it be the last. nature is going to take its course and from everything I have seen, it tends to adjust as long as extremes do not come in to play.

Just my 2 cents.
