Flow/coral question

I am asking this pertaining to LPS - but I guess it could carry over possibly into different types of coral.

Does the direction of flow tend to manipulate where the growth/direction of the coral go. So if flow is hitting it from one side, will the new heads most likely grow from the side that doesn't get the more "turbulent" type of flow?
 
I guess more specifically - if I have a branching frogspawn that is facing my lights ... Are the heads likelier to split on the side with less flow, will the heads split in all directions eventually or does flow have zero to do with branching/growing new heads.
