Looking for some flow options for a 90g tank 36*24*24 mixed reef. Looking at 2 330 gyres or 2 mp40's I know the mp40s are the staple but I could save some money on the gyres if I went that route. But I don't want to go cheap and regret it down the road. I'm open to other options as well.

I just added a pair of 330 gyres and really like them. I had used Tunze 6095s prior. The Tunzes are silent. The gyres are almost completely silent at 40% or below which is all that I need, but you can hear some hum above that. Give the gyres a try.

Thanks! What size tank are you running the in?

I was worried about the gyres being to strong for a smaller tank can you turn then down pretty far?

In my 90 I have those cheap jebao pp8's and a pp20 going on 4 years, they seem to do the job just fine

I have a 90 with an MP40 on one end and an OctoPulse OP-2 on the other end. The thing I don't like about the MP40 is you pretty much can only point it straight ahead. I've had it for about 5 years, though, and it does the job on the right side. the OP-2 can be maneuvered all kinds of directions. My MP40 is not the quiet drive version, so it can be noisier on higher settings. The OP-2 is very quiet. Between the two, I'm pleased with the flow in my tank.

Maxspect gyres are well made and have the feel of quality. The quality of flow is unmatched as well. But they’re a nightmare to clean. I still prefer them over vortechs by flow quality alone. Literally everything else about vortechs is better except where it really counts. I use a pair of xf250’s on my 90 gallon

They will go down to 10%, but they can also run backwards. The controller isn't very user friendly and I haven't played with it too much. I think I'm running one of their custom setting that is random between 40% and -30% and alternates between the two with one pump higher while the other is lower.

I think the controller has a small learning curve and a ton of button mashing. But it’s very powerful and can pretty much do anything you want it to (not related to conditionals related to other gear, which you’d obviously need a third party controller for)

I know the new gyres have a module you can get so they can be controlled from an app as well
