Going to be upping my flow in my tank. Right now I have a MP40 on each side of my tank. Tank is a standard 180. What would my best options be? Put 1 more mp40 on each side or putting 2 on the back panel and keeping the mp40s I have where they are? thanks

For less than the price of one mp40, what about a maxspect xf250? 5300gph. Put it on one end, and the two mp40 you already have on the other?

Personally, I’m doing 2 x xf250 on the same tank. I hope it’ll be more than adequate, but I won’t know for a couple weeks until I get a fill/plumbing test done

Haha... @11f150, I just saw this and we're on the same wavelength!

A change is in order and you have lots of options – none bad. :)

Adding a single mp4o on the back wall around the midpoint of the tank would be the minimum I'd recommend and should be pretty nice, if it works with your rock layout.

All three on the back might be even nicer since it takes them out of view. :) This setup is not always easy to pull off depending on your tank – really nice when it works though.

Even better would be 2 more mp40's (three already seems like a big pile of $ to me) or a switch up to something stronger like a pair of these:

Turbelle® stream 6105
's.

They'd be able to drop right into the spots where you're running the mp40's now, but have the extra kick and flow shape to run the whole tank.

Of course they also will give you LOTS MORE placement options than you would have with a non-aimable pump, so be prepared to experiment with different placements to see if you can find something better....maybe with the pumps hidden (at least partly) behind the rocks. Very possible with these pumps. It's nice that a pair will only set you back <$600 too.

I think a pair of 6105's is the strongest alternative to what you're running, but other pumps would also be worth considering, like the Turbelle® stream 3 or even something from their non-controllable line of Streams, as well as Maxspect and Icecap pumps if those seem interesting.

Consider all of these suggestions either as replacements for or supplements to what you have. :)

Remember that an mp40 is good for covering about a 24" cube (not unlike their lights). Beyond that is pushing it....flow is generally too weak.

Hey! I just responded to you and saw this post lol. I was actually thinking about throwing 3 or 4 MP40s on the back panel. That way, like you said, wouldnt show any pumps at all. I like Tunze's and have owned them in the past, I just dont think I want the cords. If I did 4 MP40s on the back panel, I wouldnt have to run them very hard and would have good flow.
