Flow for an IM Fusion 30L

Hello,
I currently have an IM fusion 20 with the stock pump and two current e-flux 660 powerheads they produce a decent amount of flow, I don't have many corals that require very strong flow. I'm upgrading to a IM fusion 30L and my question is I will be using a current e-flux return pump with 1050 GPH (I can lower that to less gph) and three e-flux 660 powerheads. Will that be sufficient flow since the return pump is much stronger? I do have an icecep gyre 1k that I like to use but I think that would be overkill, I'd love to use that instead of the powerheads but I do like the current loop system since everything is tied into one. Flow inside the tank is much more important than turn over. Some like to slow their turn over for more contact time through the filter chambers. You should be fine with just two opposing powerheads in a 30L. I have two mp10s on a 40breeder and its PLENTY of flow inside the tank at 50%.

Hi Zoajohn, I'm slowly setting up my tank now and I have a 1K Gyre but not sure if I'm going to use in it in my 30L because it's a lot of flow.. still haven't decided yet..

Can you dial it back any and find a sweet spot? The price point on the gyre is way more palatable than an mp10

i've got a single 1K on mine on the right wall set at 100% random. works great, lots of flow, but I've got SPS dominant setup and large grain black sand that doesn't blow around easily.

And if you wanted less you could always take one cage off and put the end cap on to run it that way.

Mine will be sps dominant as well. I have lps and zoas I could just keep as low as possible. Do you run any other powerheads with it?

no additional powerheads, gyre is near the top of the water line and creates awesome flow. I have a couple of RFG nozzles on the pump returns and thats it. Not a lot of real estate in that take and i hate the look of equipment inside the DT, so I choose the 1k to provide all the flow i need.

Thanks! No build thread, had it up and running prior to R2R. I’m breaking it down and moving to a new tank in a few weeks - I’ll be starting a thread for that!

Here is what is possible in a 30L...

Beautiful tank. love the colors!! I might try with my three powerheads @ 660 GPH at first since it wouldn't really be SPS dominant tank I can get away with it. Good luck with your upgrade
