Well, I have been redoing my 120gal 4' reef and I have been thinking that I need to add more flow for future sps tank. Currently I have 2 mp 40's and my return. I estimate I have 7000 gph now which gives me a turn over of about 60 times per hour. Im thinking that a turn over of about 200 times an hour is we're i want to be. How should I go about doing this with a 300 to 400 dollar budget?

Two mp40s and my return is plenty on my 5.5 foot 150. I run both of mine on reefcrest not synced turned all the way up facing eachother at each end of the tank. I plan to add a third to the center back for no particular reason. I imaging three mp40s is going to be rediculous.

2 mo40s in a 120 should be good.

You could get to jebao ws40 I have to in my 90 and they produce a massive amount of flow...u can normally get one for $90 of so
With 300 that's 3 of the, or 400 and get 4...

The jebao ws40 is so cool. Just read about it on reef builders and sound like a perfect option with a built in wave maker and everything. Thanks for the great recommendation. Please keep them coming I want to here about all the options!

It sounds like you have plenty of flow already with 2x mp40's. How much flow also depends on how your tank is aquascaped, some designs can obstruct more flow than others. If you really want more I think another mp40 is a good choice.

You know I'm almost over vortechs after 2 years. They are great pumps but can be really loud when they are on full blast or short pulse. Maybe 6 jebao ws40, that would give me 180 times turn overs per hour.

JEBAO WP40 is a good choice for small pocket. One of mine started whining like vortech does in full mode, but only noticable in up close. Hope it wont get any worst....

How long have you been running them and how many do you have? I might sell my mp40's and get 6 jebaos.

Man 180x turn over rate is just overkill in my opinion. It would definitely have to be sps only with that much flow. The two mp40's should be plenty or the equivalent thereof.

the one makes noise is about 6 months, recently added 1 more and flow opposite in reef crest mode...no , they donot sync. ..

You also have to take into account the type of sps.
My millis love flow
My deep water acros not so much

Set ur pumps up and place ur corals accordingly.

Good luck

Thanks for the input, I've decided to go with to mp40s and 2 wp40s for about 1100x turn over. I'm thinking about unsyncing my mp40s and running them on reef crest and running the wp40s on the mode that most resembles reef crest, anybody know what mode that is?

I hope your tank is bare bottom, you're not going to be able to get sand to settle anywhere. I don't run my mp40s synced, I like it better with them doing their own thing.

With that being said, I think the flow of the jaebo is like a tunze (like a lazer beam) so don't put coral directly in front of it.

I get comments on how quite my wp40 is compared to the mp's all the time. I hear a lot of peeps like that mode but I myself already had a lot of intermediate flow due to a handful of PH running of the apex so I ended up enjoying W1 mode. I like a lot of flow also and ran it on a tight pocket for a mixed reef dominated by sps. I now have 2 sicce pumps(1600-1250), 2 1400 evolutions a 1050 evolution and my wp40 in my 4foot 90g.

I run mine at w2 short fast hard burst of water
On is at the lowest setting. S it's on off on off really fast
The other one is about 10% longer. So the pumps on for 2 secs and off for a .5 sec...
Not true times but just an example to show
I have Great random flow all over the tank

Yes, the tank is bare bottom! I hear you on the non synced mp40's. wp40's sound very focused.
