Hi Guys, im about to re-start my display tank in the next few months. Only reason because i learnt alot in the last 18 months of reefing the want to start fresh with things i learnt.
My current flow is 2 x Jebao OW40 and 1 x XF250 Gyre. Tank is 4x3x1.5. On paper this is tonnes of flow but my corals on the far right lower dont seem to get enough flow, polyps dont really move around. I was thinking of maybe getting 2 X XF230 on re build and run them vertically and maybe keep 1 x OW facing down the centre of the tank. Tank is viewed on 3 side so dont really want anything on opposite side.
Here is pic of current set up and a few pics of new scape, so first pic of current DT is the same way scape will look in first pic of new pic. New builder will be Bare Bottom with glass box with sand for wrasse. I dont know maybe im overthinking it....

Try your wave makers lower towards the back. Bare bottom dont have to worry about a sandstorm. See how this handles a few sinking pellets and how long they are kept afloat before purchasing new ones :)

I think a couple of gyres would work well
thanks, have you seen any/many sps tanks with them run vertically. I havent been able to find many. Just thought that way i can get the flow to crash at different parts of the tank running 80/20 or 60/40 flow rate between them. My only concern is the flow across the middle of the tank.

Yeah that a good point thanks, yeah i cant get them any lower at the moment or they just pick up more sand. Even now i get a little tornado of sand forming under the wavermakers and blowing all over the tank.

I have seen it done yes.
You could also do one horizontal, and one vertical. You'd get some crazy random flow that way.
SPS LOVE flow, so getting enough is a problem most reefers find challenging. On my 8' 240, I have (2) MP60's running at 90% and a MP40 running at 100%.. i probably still don't have enough flow, but it seems to work for the moment

Yeah i guess its the same way people struggle with Acro, i found them easier to grow then LPS and Zoas as the flow i have is too much for them haaha. Also having a low bio load helps.
I dont really like having Gyre in magnet in the overflow box either but its the best position for it currently

If looking for something in between jebao and mp’s. I use current loop pumps in my sps dominant tank. Quiet, controllable, made in the us with great customer service and affordable. I get a rather wide flow pattern compared to the korallias they replaced.
Main plus was no clicking between off and on [emoji23].

I would love to do closed look but its an open top tank, i even thought of running a pipe across the wall and down into the tank but i dont think it will look too nice.

@Gareth elliott I'm looking for these current "loop pumps" all I can find look like wave makers. Are we talking about the same thing? Thanks

Yes sorry, was meaning an option of wave makers to create to random flow. But ones that dont break the bank. If positioned low and to the back would barely see in a tank.
