Hi all,

I just set up my first tank (a standard 40-Breeder), and have nothing in it, save for rocks, salt, and sand. I'm trying to figure out how appropriate my flow is and would love some input.

I've got a pair of Nero 5's set up on a really rudimentary schedule, with them maxing out at about 50% power. I saw a little sand movement underneath one of my rock structures after initially turning things on, but since then it's seemed pretty quiet.

Are there any tricks you might suggest for evaluating flow in the early, cycling stage?

Thanks!

It's sometimes hard to gauge without seeing things wave around, but whether sand is blowing around (or not) on the bottom is usually a good indicator. You can also try something like an airstone to see what the flow patterns are like.
