I upgraded my return pump to a Cyrca 5.0, I think I’m getting to much flow because my water level in my overflow is very high to the point my durso pipe is totally under water. My question is could this be actually hurting my water turnover rate which in turn can keep my tank dirtier. Hope that made sense. Thanks.

If your water level in your overflow is too high, slightly adjust your gate valve accordingly (very, very gently!) :)

By opening this a little bit more, you allow more flow into the sump and through the system.

Yes but my question is could this be causing my tank to be dirtier than it should be because if the water level is higher it means my set up can’t handle the turnover so am I correct in thinking it’s not keeping my tank clean like it should be.

Your tank won't be dirtier, don't worry about that! :)

Provided you have a sump that is, you can adjust the water level in the overflow to whatever level you want by opening/closing the gate valve.

To my knowledge, the Syncra pups are AC and not adjustable, right?

The circa I have is adjustable but I’m not asking if will be dirtier if I turn it down I’m asking when it was all the way and the over level being to high woukd that fuse my tank to be dirtier because it can’t turn over properly.

And basis that, I am telling you that if you just open your gate valve a little bit more to allow more flow through the drain pipe to your sump your level won't be higher than normal ;)

If you open your gate valve a little more, then your turnover will be slightly more IF YOU HAVE A SUMP that is.

Maybe share a couple of pictures of your setup.

So then, my question is, what does it matter if the water level in the overflow is higher or lower if it doesn’t change whether the tank is going to be cleaner or dirtier? My thinking is if the overflow water level is high that means my drain can’t keep up an intern, could cause my tank to be dirty.

Is your gate valve fully open? - Y / N (do you have a gate valve?)

If yes, only then, I would say that your drain can't keep up :) You can argue that, if the level remains the same, your drain is keeping allright.

If your drain would not keep up, your tank would overflow and your floors get wet! :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Maybe attach a couple of pictures (tank, overflow, sump)

The only valve I have is on my actual return pump and went all the way open. The water level in the overflow was high.

Please share some pictures of your setup :) That will clear any confusion. Tank, overflow and sump. It will be helpful if we can see the plumbing.

Unfortunately, right now I don’t have any pics as I’m out for the night but basically I’m just trying to find out is the water level in the overflow too high will that cut down on how my system is operating, which intern turn could lead to my tank being dirtier than it should be

... and no one will be able to a$$es if your water level is too high if we can't see what's going on! :)

You keep writing the same thing, I keep asking questions that you don't answer. Seems we've hit a dead end here mate.. ;)

Enjoy your night out- and post some pictures eventually. Give people a better chance helping you.

Take it easy and happy reefing! :)

I can certainly add pics later, but I don’t know what pics are gonna do for my question. My question is there’s a high water level in my overflow area affect how my system is turning water over and affecting how clean or dirty might tank is.

No. It wont.

But if you have high level in your overflow you're probably doing something wrong- or something is wrong. And in order to help you with that, you need to answer any questions people ask you- as well as sharing some pictures :)

But that will be for someone else to help you with. I am out! Of patience and time..

Enjoy your night out mate.

I think maybe the OP is talking about flow/turnover rate through the sump and whether this will make the tank dirtier. IMO it wont

Yes that’s all I’m asking is will the high water level in my overflow area mean water isn’t turning over properly and in turn making my tank dirtier than it should be. I am well aware a high level means too much flow going on and I know it’s coming from my return pump which I can turn down, but yes my original question is if it’s high does that affect the water . Seems like it doesn’t thanks.

OK I might be nuts here But why would more flow meaning more exchange make your tank dirtier Does that make sense? If I were you I would worry more about flooding your house since you have no control over your water flow without a valve!!!!

Cause I thought maybe it wasn’t turning over properly due to it being high and not being able to keep up.
