Hey everyone! So I gave a question, I have a 55 gallon tank and have a emperor 400 on it my tanks been running for like 2 years. My question is that my friend gave me a brand new emperor 400 would it be beneficial to have the 2nd filter with like no filters other than foam to catch partials. Any information will help thanks in advance!
HAPPY REEFIN`!

It can't hurt, but won't necessarily help a lot either. I would use the space for a protein skimmer.

i agree with mike it wouldnt hurt, bacteria will build on the foam and add to your biocapacity like a spong filter not too much though. a protein skimmer would definitly be a bigger benefit if you are not currently running one. but if you are debating about either adding the filter or nothing i say throw it on!

Appreciate the feed back! I might add it possibly to ugly with two but now its got me thinking!

no problem! the liverock and sand have most of the bacteria but even a little in the sponge cant hurt! just make sure not to let the sponges build up too much detritus

I'll put a pic of the tank so you can see what I'm talking about my tanks thriving and everything, just was cleaning up and found 2 filters one the emperor400 and a fluval canister so I figured it would help by moving more water and with sponges it would help cleanse the water
