Would having a mp40 and a gyre 130 on the same side tank be counterproductive. .its a 72 gal bowftont tank and have an mp10 om other side but was thinking the gyre and mp would just be fighting each other or no??

probably. mp40 and gyre on opposite sides. fill in with mp10 if you have to.
where they fight is turbulence.

If you want to do it, you might consider what livestock will be in that tank. Some corals love flow, others not so much.

Use the XF to push side to side and the MPs back to front. That's how mine is and the corals love the random flow.

That's a long, slender tank with powerheads that seem to do best in short, stubby tanks. (Because that is the shape of the flow they create. Speaking predominantly of the vortechs here.)

So, I don't know about counterproductive, but those pumps are not going to be very "happy" IMO. (BTW, counterproductive is running pumps at opposite ends of the tank facing each other - each one canceling some of the others flow.)

BTW, if you liked the vortechs why did you add the gyre? (Or, if it is a better question, why are you keeping the vortechs?)

I'm curious because they are completely different pumps.

FWIW, I (still) like Tunze for your tank. [emoji6]

I started with mps then i added a jebao rw4 on back glass lower in tank actually added two but took one out ...i acquired a gyre and put it above the mp40 soon later starfish went into mp40 stripped out nut holds prop in so i sent it out and placed the other jebao in its place ...ive had the mp40 back a while now and have debated putting it back in but figured it would be working against the gyre more than it would benefit
