Everywhere I read i get different answers. I'm trying to beat Coolia dinos. I have a 40b with a 20g sump. I bought an Aqua Uv 15w.

Some people say you need fast flow through the UV, others say slow.

What is the correct answer here?

300-400 gph is best for Dino's per the main dino thread. If being used for algae or overall water clarity high flow is best.

You need to match the flow rate for what your trying to accomplish. You need a certain contact time to kill various thing. Aqua uv lists contact times on their manual. Set the U.V. to what your trying to accomplish. Too fast and it won’t work

Im trying to get rid of dinos.

I Plumbed the UV into my return pump which is a Jebao DCT-4000. So I can adjust the flow

I don’t know the dose of U.V. that kills dinos and there are many species. A quick search said about 80uw/cm. So that would put you around 200-250gph

It is a different than dose. Its is Dwell. kind of like spark on a spark plug to keep combustion engine running . I digress.

Slower is better. Slower=more exposure. Unless you have 1000+ gallons tank turnover rate (how many times your water volume passes thru the uv per hour, day etc) shouldn't be a factor. The only place I hear of fast rates being acceptable are ponds for clearing green (algae) water and they accept it may take days to see results.
