Looking for flow recommendations for a 240 gallon #glasscages new build. Tank is drilled for 2 1” return lines. It will also have a 32” exotic marine systems overflow box. I plan on using 2 Maxspect jump 8k’s as return pumps. I like the idea of redundancy. One pump will be split between return pump and a manifold for brs dual reactor, and possibly a UV light. I am thinking the Manifold will have 3 outputs. I will use 1” pvc return pipes reduced down to accept 3/4 locline with random flow generators. In the tank I will have 2 MP40s on opposite ends of the tank. What else do I need. I am thinking of maybe adding 2 MP10s to the back wall on either side of the overflow box or 2 gyres in the same spot. How does this setup sound for what will be an spa dominant tank.

If your going the ecotech MP route have you checked out the flow calculator on their web site, it’s quiet useful

Your suggestion sounds reasonable or even just 3 MP40’s its very much personal preference, and also much will depend on the aquascape design and were there positioned etc.

It might be worth putting MP60’s into the calculator to see what they produce as well, although there more expensive of course

I would go with MP60's if sticking with 2 pumps. Are you going with sand or BB?

I use 2 MP60's and 4 MP40's on my 8'. MP60's are one on each side, 2 MP40's on the back wall, and 2 MP40's on the bottom sides blowing behind rocks and the bottom keeping it all clean. I had gyres and just do not like cleaning them and just swapping out the wet sides is so nice.

What is the thickness of your tank? that will limit the use of MP10's.

1/2 thickness all around. Bottom is 3/4. MP60s are too much money. I’m really hoping to avoid having to buy those. I already have 2 MP40s on my 90 and 2 gyre xf230s that I used to use.

Sounds like you have your answer, roll with what you have and see if you have detritus buildup and polyps are always moving
