Flow though my sump

So I'm starting a 130g system 90g display and 40g sump. I want to know what the best flow though my sump? I have hear that 10x the display and hour but and friend of mine said that I should shoot for 50x. What to you guys thing ?

I would shoot for between 3x-5x DT volume. Lots of different ideas on it. The 10x used to be very popular but now there are many people saying 1x to 2x flow. The 50x times flow is a good recommendation for total tank flow which would include your powerheads. You definitely don't want that much flowing through your sump.
 
I have a 120 with another 40 in the sump and I run about 400-500 gph through it which is plenty in my opinion.
 
My only argument on the subject is that I thought you wanted long contact time with your skimmer the refug.

That is true to a certain degree. You get that longer contact time by running slower flows through your sump. That is one of the reasons why people have gone from recommending 10x flow to as little as 1.5x flow.
