So i successfully setup an
80 gallon frag tank with a 40 breeder sump
and 180 DT with a 75 gallon sump both Herbie oveflows: They are deadline silent!!!

However, I have a few concerns...

1. Im running the 80 gallon with a Mag 3. Is that pump too small for the tank? Not enough turnover?

2. There is no water movement in the sump (on both tanks) whatsoever the water appears dead still until you get to the return baffle - so still i can see a bit of film on the surface of the water in both sumps. then you see small mvmt. IS that okay... will cheato be able to grow in such "calm waters" Should I add a pump in the cheato section. Thanks again for any and all advice

1. That should be fine, assuming you have flow in the frag tank. But magdrive pumps are not the most reliable and run hot. If you have a chance I would change that to an Eheim 1250 or similar pump.

2. A small pump to move the chaeto wouldn't hurt and might help.

I prefer slower flow through the sump, it allows more contact for any filtration you're running. I don't count on my return pump to help with in tank.flow.
