I have my flow perfectly adjusted. I adjust it based on polyp movement on my SPS when they are extended. If I turn down the flow any more the polyps stay pretty stationary. My frustration is sand! I am using carib sea arag alive sand which looks amazing but I cant keep it from blowing away to bare glass or burring corals.

This is an older picture I now have two Gyres on each side so pretend the upper pump on the left is a Gyre. They do not run at the same time, every hour one is on and one is off they are both in pulse mode. The lower power head on the left is Jeabo RW-8 that is in pulse mode behind the rocks but is only on twice a day for 10 minutes during feeding time to keep from buildup behind the rocks. The return always hits right around the same spot no matter how high or low I aim it.

So here is a side shot. You can see the sand slowly works its way to bare glass and builds up towards the back. I have tried putting rubble in that spot but it stays and sand still blows away from it.

So Removing the sand is out of the question. My wrasse loves his home which happens to be in the back where the sand is deeper. So i am thinking of getting some caribsea gravel to lay in the front from petco https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petco...-substrates/caribsea-coraline-aquarium-gravel. I am worried about it becoming a detritus trap though. Any other suggestions besides turn down the flow or go bare bottom?

You could try a larger particle sand in just that area and see if it still moves. Or crushed coral might work as well.

I would also agree that adding some heavier grades of sand will help. I used a mix of several sizes in my tank to combat the flow and it seems to work well. It might be as easy as a few hand fulls of heavier sand in select places will take care of the issue.
