How much is too much flow?

Are referring to actual tank turn over through overflows to a sump and returning to tank from return pump or water currents from wavemakers?

When all your stuff is falling off your rocks, or you're creating a sandstorm in your tank, or your fish look like they are working for their life to swim around then your flow is too much...

blow your rocks with a baster, and follow the biggest piece of anything you see that is suspended and just watch it... if you see it flow around your tank like a beautiful plastic bag from that movie American Beauty, then you're all gravy bro

He pretty much covered it.... but I do know that there are certain corals that like more or less flow than the others, just as there are some that like more or less light.

I have one favia one hammer coral and several green polyps..

Flow was one annoying thing to get right for me when i started... i switched my power heads around so much trying to get the "perfect" flow i was ready to quit lol...

You honestly just have to find that sweet spot of what works for you, with your aquascape, and where you have your corals placed. It's a hard question to answer :/
