Guys, I’m building out a new build after being out of the hobby for several years. What I have going on is basic bare bottom concept , 200 gallon display 72x30x21t. I have two MP 40’s and two MP 60’s. The MP 40’s I have in the back and the MP 60’s I have on the sides. This is a full flow sps build out with 3 XR 30 lights. Should I add two more 60’s? I’m thinking two per side but I don’t know. The tank is empty.
Thank you !

hi welcome to the reef going to love it here!!
lots of fun/info/fun/help/fun...
nice tank, sounds like plenty of flow, keep in mind returns also ;)
should hit the meet and greet meet the reef, def start a build thread:)

Dont think youll know until you fill it uo and mess with flow.

I personally hate all the mp power heads.. non adjustable just flow in one direction. Pretty trashy power heads IMO. Id rather have koralias that can be aimed all over .

Just have to LOL at this one. Tunze and vortech(ecotech) are the top brand names in powerheads. No one comes close to amount of flow, or longevity of these brands.

Hydor korralias are like one step above jebaos. Although they are probably the better of the cheaper brands out there.

Yet they still blow in ONE direction.. laugh all you want. Its still flow in one direction..

You want flow going left in the middle top or bottom. ? Or would you rather have flow pointing to the left or right or up right or down left. Or what not.

Also Koralias their newer pumps put out plenty of flow. Maybe keep up to date on stuff vs laughing trying to mock me ?

You can dismiss my post all you want. When you've replaced 3 or 4 of those korralias, and I'm still running my original 6 year old vortechs, and tunze, then you'll think twice about my post.

Lol i have 8 of the Koralias gen 2 and the smaller 425 and 540gph pumps in my 30g and 60g tanks. And the larger 1500 and newer Gen 3 2450gph pumps in my 135g.

If i couldnt adjust the angle of flow in my 135 id be tearing off flesh on my bubble corals on the bottom of the tank. With them being adjustable i can aim them at the surface creating tons of surface agitation and more than enough flow for my 15 acroporas. Doing this keepa flow on the bottom extremely low for my gonioporas and more imoortantly my 800$ green splatter bubble coral thats bigger than a basket ball. And the 3 other bubbles i have.

I can also put then midway in the tank. And turn them left or right to flow only on specific rocks or corals. With an MP40 or 60 you just put it upper mid or lower and have it blast in that one direction

Ive also had the Koralias now for 4 years. Running non stop. Besides cleaning them out with a tooth brush to maintain flow or removing vermatids ive never had a issue with any of them.

So yes ill dismiss youre nonsense post

Ladies, ladies, calm down. I'm pretty sure the guy wasn't looking for what pumps to buy. He has already made up his mind on that it seems ;)

Back on topic of flow, 2xmp60 + 2x mp40 is a lot of flow, and as mentioned there's also a return. One of the plus point of the Ecotechs is they can be added easily without wires in the tank. So I would think run with what you have, and keep a power socket free on both sides in case you want to add them. It's not only a lot of money but also more maintenance\time, would be wasteful to spend either without testing it out imho.

thank you ! I filled up the tank and yea it’s allot of flow. I tend to over kill things, I like having overkill and turning things down to where I want them and also concerned with dead spots. I guess no need to rush In!

Thank you ! This seems like the place to be! Back in the day it was reef central who I still see around.
I’m working on that build thread. It’s gonna take a minute :)

I am already heavily invested in eco tech marine and I love their products ! I feel that they don’t need to be directional because of the width of the cone they put out but that’s just me.
