I'm having an issue with my flow. I have a 120 with corner overflows. It's been up and running for about 3 months but I can't get the sand to settle. I'm wondering if I have to much flow. I have a mag 12 return pump and 2 hydor4 power heads. I've figured that I have about 3200 gph circulation. Can I bring it down a bit and still be alright?

I would say your flow isnt too much. I have a 120g with the 2 center overflows, with a Mag 24 Return and 2 MP-40s. I am running crushed coral though. I had sugar sand before, but didnt like it much caused it would start to roll after a while like desert dunes and sometimes bury some of my frags. Try pointing your returns up so they arent pointing towards the sand. I have mine facing the glass or my rock work.

I'd agree. It's almost impossible to have too much flow. Try directing the flow elsewhere if the sand is too small. That sugar-fine stuff can be difficult. You should be able to find some plumbing to split your returns on either side, or something of the sort.

I'll try adding a top layer of heavier sand and see what happens. I unplugged one of the power heads for now and repositioned the other one.

Agree here. The more flow you have the better and this definitely isn't too much. Getting the flow positioned just right to make random flow without churning up the sand bed is somewhat of an art. I have sugar fine sand in my 210 with a Mag 18 return, 2 mp40's, and a mp60 and after some tinkering I don't have any problems with the sand.

I've moved my power heads and aimed them more toward the surface. I also have a sand sifting gobie that keeps things stirred up also but he keeps the sand clean. Hopefully it'll settle in a few days.
