I recently read a comment in another forum saying the flow in a tank should be about 20x tank size with power heads and everything...any input on this? I generally just say its never too much unless sand is flowing around in water column. I calculated my flow with power heads and return and between my mp40, koralia 3, and mag9.5 I am at 63x for a 75 gallon. Holy cow! What's your input, experience, and flow on your tanks?!

I've been struggling with this in a smaller tank :( but finally got it dialed in according to my corals lol. I thought i had read 30-50x turn over is ideal

i have a small tank - only 10g :) BUT - i have a total of 400gph flowing thru it right now. so 40x turn over right? Koralia 240 (240gph), Rio 60 (60gph) and AC20 (100gph)

I was just going for as much flow as i could without the euphyllia getting shredded. Still have a few low-flow spots though that i'd like to fix.

Is there an upper limit on flow for SPS? Minimum flow requirements?

I have a mp40, 2 koralia 3, mj400, mj600, and a return shooting out around 800gph. All in a 75!

I feel flow is very subjective and while 30-50x turn over rate is a good place to start, there is no magic number that works for everyone and every tank. I have two mp40's on my 90g and I'm constantly adjusting them...sometimes full power, sometimes half power and then in between reef crest or NTM. Use the adjusting of your mp40 to see what you like best...you don't want sand blowing everywhere but you also want healthy flow that mimics the natural movement of the ocean.

Is turnover not different from flow within tank? Don't power heads just move water within tank? If there is a 1" overflow can multiple ph's increase the turnover?
