Hey Everyone,

I have an 180 gallon reef setup. It's been running for 10 weeks. I have a sand bed and I am seeing some dead spots in the tank where visible waste is being collected. I have 3 neptune wav set up. I have running at 30% on various modes through out the day. If I put them any higher it creates dunes. I already buried 2 coral due to this . I was thinking about purchasing a Gyre . Do you think that would help? Or is the 3 wavs enough. Just have to work on the placement. The tank dimensions are 72"×24"×24".... any help would be greatly appreciated

I'd try 2 gyres mounted at the top of each side. I think the ice cap 4k ones would work great, you buy one pump with the controller and a second one with just the pump. You can run both gyres off one controller. I had the same problem but I only have a 4' tank so I only mounted one. You could always start with one and add a second if needed. I also added a sicce stream behind my rockwork to keep anything from settling behind . Hope this helps.

And what should I do with the (3) wavs?

The gyres will help with the linear flow pattern by helping to stir up the areas it can reach. If your dead spots are in or around rock work that gets a little trickier to keep clean. What’s your clean up crew like? A couple conches would help with sand bed turn over and help keep it clean and hermits and nassarius snails would help with that as well.

Cleanup crew is lagging as I have had a nitrite spike recently. (7) turbos, 7 nassurius snails, 3 hermit crabs and 2 emerald crabs

Check our reefcleaners.org. They can set up a custom clean up crew for your tank for free then you just buy what you want. Good prices and super helpful
