Hey reefers,
Does anyone have information on the length of time fluconazole stays in the water column? Does it breakdown or does it need to be manually removed via water changes or binders etc?

It can be removed via water changes, protein skimming and carbon. I used it for a 2 week treatment of Bryopsis. I followed the directions on the bottle and did a large water change and ran carbon for a week as well as turned my slimmer back on after the treatment . Did not lose a single inhabitant of my tank.

I see. The reason I’m asking , is I took my refugium offline, as well as the skimmer. The directions state that I can reactivate the skimmer after 72 hours but the effects of treatment may not be seen for 10-14 days. Does that mean I need to keep the refugium offline for 10-14 days?

Why did you take the fuge offline? I left mine going. Didn’t seem to bother anything. I’d get your fuge going again and turn the skimmer back on after 72 hrs.

I wouldn't skim for a minimum of 2 weeks. It can take 2-3 weeks before you see results

I kept my skimmer off for 3 weeks, no carbon, and did a 25% water change (7 gallons or so) at the month mark.

I dosed Reef Flux in my tank 12 months ago. I turned the skimmer off for 3 days as recommended and left it to do it’s stuff for 11 more days (14 days total). I did not however do a large WC then, just my regular 15% one, and then went back to my usual 6 weekly 15% cycle. Worked a treat, no fatalities (except the GHA), everyone happy.

I’ll jump in since I’m getting ready to treat my tank with fluconazole capsules. I have 20 gallon with no skimmer to worry about. How long do I keep carbon out, 72 hours or the duration of the treatment (2 weeks or more)? I use Chemipure Elite and filter floss. Will I be ok using only filter floss during treatment? Thanks.

I used the pet albi fish fluconazole tablets. All the bryopsis patches were gone in 3-4 days. Im now trying to decide if i should run the full 14 day cycle or am i ok to start removing it now after 7 days. I kept my skimmer running the full time, just pulld the cup off so could maintain maximum oxygen saturation. I also dosed reefbrite liverock enhance bacteria the day before dosing the fluconazole. This may have speeded up the bryopsis dying off, but cannot confirm it.
