Flushing RO membrane

I try and flush it every time for about 30 seconds to 1 minute before I make any water. But the TDS coming out of the faucet is 0 TDS, so I don't fret over it too much.

5 minutes once a month. So for me that is ... maybe 500 gallons. Don't know where I got the suggestion but probably here. I probably should have read the directions, but for me that is a last resort generally.

Actually, it probably depends more upon:
a) input water quality
b) keeping your other filters fresh (or not)

Zero TDS out of the faucet? That is pretty amazing. Do you live on this earth or a better one?

I don't even want to know what TDS is out of my faucet. Here is the input line to my RODI. And thanks for reminding me I need to change the filter on the ice-maker. Bourbon has been tasting a little off lately.

My intake line is a lovely shade of orange from the iron in my well water. I know exactly what you mean about the bourbon tasting off...lol

Bourbon tasting off???

Sorry, I usually drink mine neat...;Wacky

Thanks for the suggestions, currently I flush it for 20 minutes every few weeks...maybe too much from what I'm reading here as that now accounts for about 20 gallons per week for my needs.

The input has been running between 90-120 ppm and of course after the DI...ZERO :)

And unless my TDS meter, and the TDS test strips are all jacked up, they both register 0 TDS out of the faucet. No pre-filters or water conditioning systems either.

Pardon my ignorance, but why should we flush the membrane?

Flushing your membrane helps extend the life of your membrane by flushing the surface of your membrane to remove any surface contaminants from the top layers of the membrane after water production. This delays the build up of these contaminants which will eventually harden and clog your membrane over time.

It is best to do this directly AFTER water production every time you make water. A few minutes will do, flushing it periodically (Weekly, monthly etc.) won't help very much as those contaminants have been given time to harden on the surface.

Thank you!

Perfect...my new procedure!

Pressing "Like" as I run downstairs to flush my membrane.

Thank you for that explanation. Maybe I should have read the directions.
