Hello everyone, I'm currently running a 565 gph hydro wavemaker on my fluval 13.5 gallon tank. Is that too much flow for the tank? If not, then what could be a good placement for it? This is my current set up.

I honestly think the flow (Permanent unidirectional flow) may be too muck for your reef tank... I have the smaller version (The Evo 5), with a Tunze Nano Stream Turbelle controllable set to 1 on a 7 second interval and rocks my reef when is on.

Keep in mind the difference between yours and mine is only 5" in width and 4" in height. I would suggest that you put it on a timer to go off during lights off and make sure to place it on the opposite side of the overflow intake as is proven to affect the water flow into the filtration chamber (The collection of debris and such).

Tank is looking good too :)

I might get a new one that has less power. Thank you for the reply

What would you suggest as a better gph to aim for

250-300 gph...running 240 in my 10 gal QT and I still have to watch where it's pointed not to blast the corals too much.

You could have more flow if two even smaller pumps and turbulent flow. It's the high blast in one direction that's an issue.

I dont have a pic handy, but I have been using a Foam cover on my Turbelle, it allows me to up the power and creates a much better flow (Will try to post it here tomorrow).

If the foam cover does not work well, maybe you can consider replacing it for a controllable pump? (I know mine is 56 to 1100+ gph and is on level 1, so I guess close to 100gph? :D), same as yours, if I go past 1 being so close to the circulating pump sprayer, it makes Tsunami waves haha

Is there any cheaper choice for controllable pump?

Hydor Corallia has a controller for their pumps, you can purchase a nano model with controller for under $ 100

I only opted for the Tunze with the intention of using it on a bigger tank in the future.

i run two of the old jabeo wave maker pumps sync'd together from when the mp10s were new in my fluval 13.5 but i like high flow. i couldn't imagine using only 1 of the constant flow hydor pumps.
