I just bought a fluval aquaclear 70 for a 20 gallon tall. I know more filtration is better, it just seems to be a very strong flow when on the slowest setting. I'm also running a skimmer and ecotech MP10.

Should i go down a size for the filter

IMHO - the more flow the better - especially if its a tall tank. Are you thinking there is too much because fish or coral are not doing well? Can you adjust your skimmer/MP10 such that the flow is more turbulent, etc?

i agree with the post above. perhaps lowering the mp10?

I have adjusted those down as well and still seems a bit much

You can replace the current Aquaclear 70 impeller with an Aquaclear 50 impeller. The impellers are interchangeable and available on Amazon. The Aquaclear 50 impeller will reduce the flow rate while retaining the larger media space of the Aquaclear 70 case.
