Hi guys

Was thinking of replacing the sponge in chamber 2 of my fluval evo 13.5. I’ve heard that it just traps dirt.

Is this true as I feel that it also keeps beneficial bacteria in there too!

Not willing to pay out for the over priced intank media basket but was thinking of doing a DIY basket out of egg crate.

Or should I just stick with the sponge?

Thoughts please guys.:)

I've got the same tank and I like the sponge. It's easy to clean and I put a micron filter media in front of it to catch even more that the sponge would get. I replaced the charcoal with a Purigen bag. Tank looks great.

Thanks, by charcoal do you mean the carbon?
