So guys I have a Fluval 13.5 that I been building out. Decided to keep the stock light. Now a ramp up timer will work with this tank. But your either full blue or full on. That’s it. Dual Channel won’t help. Since it’s a budget tank I have gone a little crazy with some things but don’t want to go to crazy like a $200 AI Prime.
Now I usually do short lighting cycles like 6-8 hours. Biocubes were different as I had blues on at certain times. But this thing will allow for 6 Levels. The above chart shows their stock program if you run it this way. It’s a pretty long schedule but at less intensity through out the day it may be okay. I’m also going to try to get things tied in with my wave maker.
What do you guys suggest with a ramp up timer like that and a lighting schedule on the Stock Fluval 13.5 Lighting??? Should I follow their Chart and tie in the wavemaker?
Well guys I picked up two extension cords and another timer. Lol. So I bought the Pro Timer so I have 3 settings of ramp up and ramp down for main aquarium light it’s when it hits a certain time it takes 15-30 minutes your choice to reach that intensity level. Then noticed my ACKE 12 Watt grow light for chaeto is the same exact barrel size so I picked up the regular ramp up timer for the fuge light I don’t need a 15-30 minute sunrise on the fuge. I’ll probably just use on and off setting. But $11.99 and it’s gonna work and it’s minimal. Needed a few extension cords so I can mount these boxes in next to my temp and wavemaker controller. They are neatly positioned on dry wall underneath stand. Where I can access easily. Still curious on settings for that main display light see chart above?
All in all a Budget AIO with a little bit of flare and structure. Going with crazy set ups and MP10s etc just too much for $150 tank. But I do want it to work well as I’ll invest in the corals as I already started too.
Not new to the hobby this is just a different project with a few things I never used before. Ramp Up Timers I’ve never used.
So I dug into those ramp up timers. Looks like it’s gonna work well with the Fluval Edge 13.5 Light. Somebody even has a video on YouTube with that same light but the cheaper model just a ramp up on sunrise and sunset. I’m looking to have a lower intensity for hours in between which is why I bought the pro as well. I’ll probably have to screw with the intensity a50% could be full blast on some lights but it’s going to work. So you can’t trust intensity you’ll be eyeing it or measuring it. They are rated for 30 Volts 4 amps otherwise your gonna have buzzing and burnt out displays. That famous ACKE grow light I bought one for as I don’t have a timer on it yet is 27 Volts on a 12 Watt. I was like whooooah. The Fluval 13.5 is low voltage. So be real careful with these things. Yeah the reef keeper lite might of been the way to go. But again. I’m looking for functions on a budget. As it’s a budget tank. This should work but I’ll be playing with things for awhile.
Been a bit of a project to give this bed bath and beyond stand a new purpose. I’ll post back Tommorrow when I have everything mounted and working. Basically I have wire mounts every controller and tie is going on the dry wall with 3M Command Velcro right underneath the tank where my crap is right now. Wires will be organized and sip tied to the rear stand leg. I have 3M zip tie stickies to manage the wires on wall. It’ll look really clean when I’m done and provide easy access. Reef Keeper lite might of been the way to go. But again I didn’t want to spend much on $150 tank. I just wanted to cover the bases. And have it look good. Power strip I’m undecided on. I’ll probably use the same one that’s 3M Command to the wall on Entertainment stand. The outlets work well. Back up power. I have a battery powered bubbler but I may throw in a battery back I have laying around for a Computer should provide a good runtime on the return.
Elegance Coral. They are very interested in it. But they usually host anything. My local reef shop got some Elegance from Australia. That’s what you want. Price was right $39 bucks and a frag free I said yeah I’ll try it. It popped right away. But you are correct. Elegance is kinda like an Anemone but they can live off light. Short story the clowns are taking more intrest in that than anything else.

I doubt he has anymore. He sold them all quick. I’ll ask. That used to be an easy coral to take care of. Today it’s hit or miss. Their common tho. If you get one it has to come from Australia. Otherwise it probably won’t last. And you were right to refer to it as an Anemone. They are very close. They don’t move tho. But they have a few mouths and eat. But they can survive on just light as well. Which is why? They aren’t anemones
