Kinda curious, the tank came with ceramic media for bacteria colonization. Back in the day, I used the bio balls in a wet, dry and you never replaced those. The manual now says they should be replaced periodically. I'm trying to figure out why you would replace your bacteria colony from time to time? What am I missing?

I think the recommendation of replacing them is so they can sell you more. It would be like saying you need to replace the rock in your tank every now and then.

I don't think biomedia is very useful except allowing you to have a backup if you need to set up a hospital tank in short notice.
