Hi All,
I have a bit of a random question... but does anyone use a Fluval Fx6 (or other large canister filter) to filter 2 tanks?
Currently I have my Fluval Fx6 on a 50g tank that I want to convert into a reef tank. The issue is I have a Cherub Angel (pretty much full size @ ~3") in there and he has grown into a bit of a bully.. mainly beating up my Tomini Tang that's about the same size. They've been together for 4-6 months at this point so i'm not too worried about him killing the Tomini. EITHER WAY I was planning to donate the Cherub to one of my LFS' soon, but I've had him for almost 4 years now and I don't really want to get rid of him after all this time.
I have a spare 30g tank that I was thinking about setting up just for him - but the wall it would go on is a little tapped on outlet space. Honestly a bit nervous about overloading it. For the tank to be independent I would need to plug in at least 4 more devices (Light, Filter, Heater and 1 Power Head) I was thinking if I got some some Y connections, I could split the intake/outtake lines and use the filter on both tanks. Obviously this would reduce the flow rate in the 50g, but with it being such a big filter I'm not super concerned about that.
The main downside is that if anything happens to one of the tanks it would affect both tanks - but also using water/rock from the 50g would expedite the cycling process, so I don't think I'd run into issues with any algae blooms.
Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated!
