Hello everyone,

I currently own a 75 gallon African cichlid tank, so I'm not new to fish keeping, but I am new to saltwater. I'm in the process of cycling my first nano reef. It is a 14 gallon Fluval M40 with 10.6 gallons as the tank and 3.4 gallons as the overflow area. I was wondering if I could stock it with the following. My main concerns are is this too overstocked? Will the two types of clownfish pair up? Will the goby fight the firefish? And will the two types of shrimp fight? Any and all advice would be helpful!

1. Clownfish (Amphiprion) ocellaris
2 Black and white (Darwin) Amphiprion Clownfish
3. Pistol Shrimp
4. Goby (open to suggestions) to pair up with Pistol Shrimp
5. Firefish
6. Fire Shrimp

Any suggestions for coral or anemone for the clownfish would also be great. Thanks!

Just Goby/Pistol may be the best option, really. That combo alone may make for a very cool tank that is not overcrowded. Otherwise I would say two fish max and nothing that gets bigger than 2-3 inches. Two fish and a small shrimp may work nicely if small adult size, but others may say that is too much. Hermits and snails could also add noticeable activity in 10.6 gallons.

One is more constrained by aquarium space and fish spacial needs in saltwater vs. freshwater.

for a 10g tank, i think two is most you can stock but I wouldn't even put two if it was my tank. Goby/shrimp combo would work very nice for that size tank or clown pair.

So one clown or a pair of clowns is out of the question if I get a goby/shrimp pair?

If I get the pistol shrimp, is it safe to get a fire shrimp?

I would look at LiveAquaria.com Nano fish section to get a better idea of whateachfish requires. You can find out what is the minimum tank size for each fish, how big they will get, what their diet is and find out if they will all get along.

Personally I would only put a pistol shrimp and Goby pair.
Just for an idea LiveAquaria recommends Clown Fish to be housed in a 30 gallon aquarium minimum.
