Fluval Marine reef 3.0 review

So I just noticed the lights have an update and you can set several timepoints in it so you can finally have them shut off. Here’s what I’m about to run for a few days to see how it works out, opinions are welcome as well as your pics

Just got into the hobby a few months ago. Trying to keep my initial tank build below 3k I opted for the fluval marine and reef. My lps corals seem to be growing well enough over the past month.

I’m very concerned with the SPS I have. I have one green “the thing” acro about 6-8 inches below the light, and one montipora about 8-10 inches below the light.
I’m running all colors at 100% for about 12 hours a day ( a little more with the sunset/ sunrise feature) I’ve been supplementing corals every other day with reef chili.

Do I have a shot at all at growing corals with this light, or am I just throwing money out the window?

To me that just seems like a very long time to run at 100 % you might get some algae outbreaks

I’m afraid of not getting enough coral growth since it’s a weaker light. What lighting/ trimming suggestions do you suggest?

I just use auto set it. Let it ramp up and down turn blues for night and sleep turns all off.

Mine has been doing well, I run two of them on my 125 set up

Well my light turned off during the update, the update failed, and now I can’t even turn my light on manually- piece of crap.

How is this going for you? I haven’t been able to get mine dialed in right. I also only have one on my 75. Should I have another? I have mostly softies only a handful of LPS

For all those curious I’m doing a review of the Fluval Marine reef 3.0 for a low tech light it’s pretty good, the app is decent although without a par meter you might find yourself lost adjusting the spectrums the light by itself will support softies however for any LPS and SPS corals I would strongly suggest extra lighting seems pretty durable has a excellent water resistant rating of IP67 so it could be submerged and still be fine, I would recomend having this light directly above the water using the mounting legs it gives you and unobstructed from water as this light is not the strongest but not the worst by the time you get to 18” the PAR reading is around 55 so water penetration is not the best, At 3": PAR=390, At 12": PAR=102 this will get the job done for softies the blue spectrum on this light is fantastic the app has a sunrise and sunset mode witch works great I would recomend this light to new hobbyists as it is easy and user friendly and can maintain softies and if you want to get in to LPS or SPS and anemones you will need to add lighting that about sums it up thanks for reading feel free to hit me with more questions! I believe you have to switch over to manual instead of auto. You should be able to add time slices there

So FluvalSmart added an update to the lights so you can add as many time points as you want, this means you can have the lights actually turn off automatically plus go through a complete cycle like it’s actually going through a day
