Flyfisherman's SPS collection

Colony? It has recently finally started to to take off though. I’m not familiar with the Peter Goblin, so I can’t give you an answer there. I’ll be happy to send you a piece come fall when the cooler weather arrives.

Its a colony compared to what it started from! When i first got it, the piece grew faster than any tenuis Ive ever seen...perhaps there was something in the flatworm stop I used to run it liked. It can be finicky, i really think the phosphates killed it...

I'm working on a piece from Ryan lets see if he come through, otherwise yes absolutely I will take you up on that!

How high were your phosphates?
My Tenuis do best at 0.15-0.20

I was testing using salifert and running around .25-.35(i think, colors are a pain to read and I'm not colorblind) - most coral growing extremely well.

I started using a hanna and was getting readings as high as .58. This coincided with a bad stretch for the crazy hands where I lost it. Positive - i know why my crazy hands died and probably why I've had negative stretches in the past with some of my other tenuis. Negative- i lost one of my favorite corals.

I brought the phosphates down with lanthanum through my skimmer and I've been controlling them around .06-.15 ever since.

I've seen some slowing in growth in some other species of acropora, but tenuis seem to be thriving more consistently now. At the end of the day, I'm okay with this tradeoff as over 30% of the collection are tenuis (i have about 100 acropora pieces I'm growing). It really is a delicate balance keeping all the pieces happy with 1 set of parameters!

I pulled this strain from another member of the forum, not sure lineage before that. When he sold to me, he told me it was moody also. Since that time he's inquired about a piece, apparently he lost his colony and everybody he sold frags lost their pieces also. As i said, its got an attitude, but its one of the best ive seen...

Here is one of his shots.

It takes time to grow out nice sticks and build a collection. Be patient and don't be afraid to hack up stuff that grows too fast!
Dang Mike, tank looks great and I'm jonesing for another visit, hopefully in a few weeks:-)

Easily a top piece in the hobby. It actually grows and variably colors up based on your own unique grow out conditions.

If you are lucky to have gotten a piece from me, be patient and steady, it will become something special in about a year or so.
