Flying with coral today question

Bought coral at reefapalooza and we fly out today. If you open the container to check the water temp will it have any negative effect like it does for fish with ammonia

Should be fine. Corals are shipped all the time. After shows like RAP or MACNA, TSA seems to get the idea and there is less of a hassle because there are many people getting in a plane with their new corals. Having the TSA guidelines printed out and ready for them to see when going through security is never a bad idea because some of them have no idea what a coral is..

I just didn't know if you opened the container to do a temp check if ammonia would start to build up. With fish I know as soon as you open the bag they are shipped in, ammonia starts forming

No, that shouldn't be an issue for corals. I'd even suggest not worrying about the temperature.

well I don't think the SPS traveled very well. one of them died and stunk up the water pretty good. they are in the tank now but I don't think they will live

No need to check on them. Temp plays a key and they are good in packing for at least 20 hrs

we picked the coral up around 5pm pst on Sunday. unfortunately we didn't land in Boston until after 1230 Tuesday morning EST due to a delay at the airport

thanks... the water smelt like rotten eggs and one was definitely dead. the others still have polyps, so we are hoping for the best

I think it is always best practice to keep each piece separate. Did you have them in the same container of water together?

Ya we had all sps in a TSA approved container
