Flying with corals.

Hi all. So I travel alot for work and, I like going to the LFS's and look at the goodies. there has been times where I wanted to bring a coral home but, I don't know how to take then on the plane. Anyone know what I jave to do to get thru TSA?

I just brought corals to Houston from LAX on a flight. It's entirely doable but you need to have the reciept from the store.

There's a form you can print out stating your right to carry coral on a plane. If TSA gives you a hard time show them that. Problem is if they want to be jerks you are in a bind. Ive done it a few times , but I have secret access.

Haha. I wish. No jist have to fly to our corp office and other sites in the US.

TSA regulations say you can fly with coral. Go to the TSA website, search it and you can print that out.

At the end of the day it is up to the specific airline you are flying. You can only carry on coral, not check it. They will likely do an enhanced search at TSA. I've done it a few times and had no problem. Things I would not advise packing are macro algaes.

Yes, the corals should be in their own insulated box. Clear bags, because they are required to do a visual inspection. When you go through TSA, Tell them you are flying with coral.

OK. I have a a container with a frag plug holders. Thats what I usually use.

Check with your airline first. Southwest and JetBlue have both required the coral to be in their own container meaning a separate box from the carry-on.

Prepare for the most exciting grope down that you can imaging. These TSA folks all used to work at clubs, not as security but as dancers and they want to get some payback for the leering they put up with. Just smile and say; :Thank you, that was great" when they are done. Last time I flew my wife almost got arrested complaining about the proceedure. Pays to be aware of what may happen on the trip thru national security feel down stations.

Keep receipt with you as you go through TSA which allows a Small box such as 6"X6" which qualifies as carry-on and the receipt will show purchased and not taken from a nearby waterway. I just did this coming from Florida
