I have a 30 tigger system pro elite sump. Right after the skimmer there is a foam pad. It stops all of the bigger items from getting to the pump where it also has a foam on the intake. Should i remove both of the foam pads so that my skimmer can do whats its suppose to do. Also I had a nitrate spike to like .10-15. On a 40g breeder with about 20 in the sump i did a 10% water change. Let the tank run for a few hours checked everything again. Still nitrates high. After the second check i looked at the two pads and they were full of food,broken down stuff, first pad has macro algae growing inside of it.
So to recap should i just take the two foam pads out and do soemthing else?>
