I have a 125g saltwater aquarium and I was wondering why there is foam in the Refugium I just set up my tank about 4 days ago. I’m getting what looks like foam in the first portion of the refugium where water is coming from the tank and going into the sock. I added turbo start 900 yesterday and noticed the foam shortly after does anyone have any idea why it’s doing this on a new saltwater aquarium.

No there’s only foam in that one portion of the refugium like the tank itself is clear and the other two portions of the refugium is clear of any foam

+1 about washing the filter sock. Never wash it with detergent. Either wash it in hot water or a small amount of unscented bleach.... rinse well and let dry completely.

If that is not it.... perhaps the Turbo Start caused a bloom of bacteria. Since it is a new tank.... let it resolve itself before you dose any more. Also, check the amount you dosed is correct. Make sure you consider Total Water Volume and displacement of sand, rock, and equipment. I have seen where someone put too much turbo start in and they got some similar foaming. Are you running a skimmer? Assuming that too has blown out. Let it resolve itself.

Since you are new to R2R.... Welcome.

New tanks are great! Take it slow... take your time and don't give into shortcuts and trying to speed the process. Do a good solid cycle.... and get a well-established environment. It will take a while..... even using Turbo...

Good Luck! Welcome!

I really don’t think soap or detergent got in the water or the sock. But I’m just wondering what would happen if it was soap or detergent?

Actually with the turbo start 900 it does causes foaming in the refugium just In case anyone else is wondering or comes across this problem.
