So I made a thread about my bristle worms and my ich problem I had a few weeks ago. From that point I have setup a QT tank and am battling with my sailfin not doing well and ALL OF MY TANGS have passed. Basically I’m left with my scopus and my sailfin which the sail fin is looking worse by the day… I’m reaching out to you guys for the best advice on what to do in my situation. The tank currently has no fish, all my shrimp and crabs and snails are still inhabiting it as I know they won’t carry a disease. I’m trying to figure out what to do with the tank as far as the bristle worms. At this point I’m going to try and coral dip some rocks, get rid of some that I don’t like. Is there anything I can do to not crash the tank? If it’s alright, I’d get rid of the rocks and start over with base. I just need some viable options on what’s in my best interest. I’ll add photos of what the tank looks like and my sail fin. He’s not looking too sporty and he’s been in the QT with the remaining fish for a few days now. My clown fish are in a separate QT which I believe someone said they may have brooks and maybe the reason all my fish died.

Personally, I don't have anything against bristle worms. I never had any problems with them. Just make sure they are not fireworms. Yeah, they are pretty hideous, but it's a free CUC. But if you really do want to get rid of them, try the traps. They are pretty effective.

Is there anyway the worms maybe carrying a disease? I’ve had a handful of fish die in the tank…

Probably not, but if added something, even inverts with water that has bacteria or parasites then that's how it got in your tank.

Well if it were a couple of worms than I don’t think I’d have a problem. I’ve got HUNDREDS of worms in the rocks. He picture is me coral dipping a single rock….

dang, that's pretty bad. If you starve your tank, which you have an opportunity to do, many of them will die off. I had a problem before, but you are on another level if that's from one rock.

I’m cleaning up from the previous tank owner… I’m going to try and dip some of the rocks and get rid of some that I don’t want in the DT. I’ll post pictures of how many more come out lol

So - the issue - Bristleworms (all of the fish are out of the tank) - plus there is a sick tang.

I think we discussed this a couple days ago. The bristle worms are a symptom - not a cause of the problem. IMHO - the cause is overfeeding - plus you have a disease in your tank. IMHO - the disease is either velvet or brooklynella or flukes - without an update from the previous thread - Its unknown how to advise you. It's unclear you said there are no fish - but there is the sailfin. IMHO - that fish should be treated with copper per protocol - watching carefully for any change/worsening - which may suggest another treatment protocol.

As to your bristle-worm issue - I would recommend siphoning off your tank( worms and all) - or when they die from lack of food you're going to need to do it anyway) - replace with fresh saltwater.

If I'm not summarizing this correctly - let me know!

The sailfin is in my QT tank. I did not have a QT tank when the disease came about, I wasn’t ready for it so all my fish died besides a few chromies, sail fin, and scopus( which are all in QT) Do you mean draining all my tank water? I just did a coral dip in RO and got rid of a few rocks that were heavily infested with the worms.

The sailfin has white blotches on his bottom and is floating vertically. The picture I originally posted is him in the QT running copper

I meant siphon out the water to get rid of as many bristle worms as you can to help solve issue A. As to the tang - can you post a video now that it seems to be doing something differently?

I just feed my QT to try and get him moving. The scopus is looking bad too but he’s hiding so I’ll have to upload a video when he comes out of hiding.
