Hi all my 8 month old tank now is slowly becoming nicely stocked. I have:
-2 Ocellaris clowns
-4 yellow belly damsels
-3 green chromis
-1 yellow tang
-1 powder blue tang
-1 regal tang

And soon to have
-1 chalk goby
-1 foxface rabbitfish

I keep african cichlids and koi carp and food reccomendations have always been a high quality pellets so I havent yet ventured into frozen food before.

I'm alternating feeding vitalis algae flakes, Vitalis marine pellets and vitalis marine flakes. Also I put algae sheets on a clip.

I want to start feeding a better diet of frozen food along with the dry food. Can anyone reccomended me a simple frozen diet for my selection of fish?

Many thanks

Small mysis, such as Hikari brand, would be greatly loved by all of the fish you listed. So would frozen copepods (cyclopeeze, cyclopods, calanus, etc.). You're looking for small planktonic organisms (mysis, copepods, etc.). If you decide to buy brine shrimp, make sure it is either enriched, or fed spirulina prior to freezing to ensure proper nutrition.

Agree with @AcanthurusRex
All my fish love LRS Fish Frenzy.
Herbivores are good with nori or macroalgae you grow in a refugium.

Interesting...I grow chaeto in my refugium, should I occasionally feed this to my tangs?

I don’t think they will eat chaeto, it’s too tough. But if you start growing some Gracilaria, they should eat that.

I feed a mix of four kinds of pellets. I just picked highly rated ones. I use small pellets because small fish will eat small pellets and my biggest ones will also. The mix is to try to get a good mix of needed nutrients.

You have tangs. Tangs are really herbivorous. I feed tangs nori on clips. They love the stuff. It keeps them nice and fat and healthy.

I also feed frozen mysis. It has a good reputation as being nutritious. I also feed frozen enriched adult brine shrimp. I understand that adult brine shrimp are low in food value so the enriched is supposed to help.

Thanks for the replies. How many times per day do you feed and do you feed frozen every day or just a few times per week?

I feed LRS frozen every day in morning. Sometimes add TDO chroma boost pellets.

Some night feedings, usually every other night. TDO chroma boost pellets or a different frozen food.

I used to feed only live blackworms in the morning, until I couldn’t get them anymore. When they rebuild the facility in California and are able to supply my LFS, I will start feeding these every other day. My fish loved them.

Mixed dry pelitized/flake, several times a day via auto feed.
Nori daily.
Frozen Mysis, Brine, and Bloodworms, once at dinner time.

How do you defrost the cubes? Does it have to be in tank water or is it ok to chuck the cube in a net, rinse under the hot tap until defrosted then release the food from the net into the tank

I put in a little shot glass with some DT water, melt, and in she goes.
I don’t rinse at all, I want all fed in the column, all sizes.
But I have a ton of corals.

If my tank was new, say less than year, and no corals, yup, I would rinse first to lower unnecessary nutrients.
