Food color in tank

For everyone saying how bad it is for the livestock. I would like to know, why is it bad for the livestock?
I had a local reefer come and take par readings with the color in it. Even with the color my par readings were good for sps coral.

It's not actually that uncommon in the fresh water world of fish keeping.. As a kid I remember seeing gold fish in bags of bright blue water at carnivals that where prizes on some games, no doubt food coloring and using blue is a old trick used by some to offset the yellow tint of fresh water with wood leaching tannin into the water.

FWIW, at the likely dose used, food coloring will not have any impact on any of the salinity measurements methods we use for reefs, and also not alk, calcium, magnesium, etc.
GAC and certainly polymers for binding organics would be the product to use to remove it.

We use vodka, stump remover, coral dips that smell like pinesol, not to mention the constant chemical warfare going on between the corals... I think a small amount of food grade coloring is the least of his worries.... Lol

I am with Duke4Life. That dye is now in your tank and on everything. Now I don't know if it will cause any ill effect to your live stock but I can see it affecting the reading on color test kits.

It wont be dark enough to notice much in a test tube, compared to the dye of the kit, unless it is so dark in the whole tank that you can barely see through it. So it isn't a concern for titration kits. It might interfere with very low level testing for nitrate, or phosphate, but I think it unlikely.
