Hello,

I have two anemones in a 75g tank. One of them has a clown in it. What do I feed the anemones? It is not possible for me to go and get shrimp every week, and I dont have anything to aim the food near the anemone anyway.

I saw some liquid anemone food at the fish store. The guy told me to put one capful every three days as food for the anemone. he said the anemones would extract food from the water and it would not be harmful to the fish.

Is this a viable option? can someone point me to what food I should buy for anemones (the liquid ? )

Dont anemones simply eat whatever i put in for the fish as it breaks down into smaller particles ? Do they need to be fed at all ?

-Nikhil.

I do not put specific food into my tank just for the anemones.

That liquid food sounds like it would add un-needed nutrients into the water.

Next time you go to store buy 1/2 pound of fresh shrimp of your choosing and cut up in small pieces according to the size of your anemone.

Freeze the rest.

Have been on the same bag for about a month and still very full.

I have 4 carpet anemones and 3 BTA's.

even if i were to do that, wont the clown in the anemone eat it up without letting them go to the anemone ? thats what it does with all the fish food i put in the tank anyway..

I buy 2lb bags raw frozen shrimp for 14$ on sale. Thats alot cheaper than any fish food you buy at LFS. All you need to feed is a 1/4 in piece of the shrimp every 3 days or so,if that. Hell 2 pounds of spiruina brine shrimp would cost about 71$

I use a bamboo marshmallow stick about 30" long found at Walmart I believe.

Affix tooth pick on end with small rubber bands or butchers twine and impale piece of shrimp and spot feed.

Once the anemones grab it it's gone.

I feed mine shrimp or scallops... I use a turkey baster to suction the food and let it fall on the nem...
If you have a clown hosting the nem, then the clown is already giving the nem what it needs. Feed the clown and he will feed the nem by dropping some or placing some on the nem.
I would not use liquid as someone else mentioned thats just going to leave extra in the water that isnt used.
I prefer scallop as its much easier for me to cut vs shrimp.
If you want to start small, buy some frozen mysis, pop one cube out or half a cube and thaw it and spray with a baster towards the clown and nem.
If you feed the nem bigger things like shrimp or scallop it will grow in size quickly !

You got it right the first time to be honest.

Dont anemones simply eat whatever i put in for the fish as it breaks down into smaller particles ? Do they need to be fed at all ?

Yes and No respectively.

If you want to feed it to try to get it to grow faster you can. If you're happy with how it is, have to worry about nutrients...etc you don't need to spot feed it at all.

What lights do you have?

What species of anemones?

At the moment I am down to just 2 anemones (( both S. haddoni )), but recently had 3 more; 2 E. quadricolors and 1 M. doreensis. None of them were directly fed in the last 2 years. (( 1 year for one of the S. haddonis; length of time I have had it )).

IMO/E, it is better to feed smaller foods compared to larger pieces. If you see the anemone put out a waste ball a day or 2 after feeding, you fed it too much.
