What is the best food for clams? I ordered a little clam, but they ran out and offered me a large derasa for the same price...this thing is nice! id say 5-6 inches..surprised meI really dont want to kill it! lol..I have it in my 50 cube with two clowns..( i once had a small clam in my large tank but it didnt make it 4 months..I think it may have been picked on..and or too much sand dumped on it by the goby..anyhow..anyone who has good luck and advice about the best food..and care..I mean I can look things up..but i like to ask actual people who have experience..

They don't need to be fed at all. Plenty of light, stable chemistry is most important.

lol
I was just about to call you in here.

Thanks!!

thanks..I know they didnt need regular feedings..I thought maybe it was good to occasional put something thats good for them..I have it in a 50 cube..24x24 the light is a ecotech radion xr15 ...I think as of right now i dont have its peak power higher than 70 percent...as a matter of fact..does anyone know the best program to run in the preprogrammed ones..I have some coral in there..but should be able to use the acclimation...any recommendation about going higher or using a preset program...

A derasa doesn't need as much light as a maxima or crocea. I've seen members growing them well around 250 par. I would keep the clam on the bottom as they are sand dwellers. It won't hurt the clam to occasionally dose some live phytoplankton but it doesn't need it to grow or survive. If you decide to use live phytoplankton then I'd recommend broadcast feeding, not target feeding.
