My LFS has a Velvet wrasse cirrhilabrus luteovittatus (male) I was wanting to know what kind of temper they have with other wrasses? How well do they hold there color? Right now the only wrasses I have a a pair of Flames and a cleaner wrasse would they do okay together?
Thanks

They are a very pretty fish, no doubt. I have several fairy wrasses in my 120g tank (C. jordani female, C. exquisitus male, C. cyanopleura male, with the intention to add about 4 more) and they all get along fine. The flame female runs the tank and shows any new addition who is boss fairly quickly. Both of the others have submitted (even though both were larger) and they all get along very well after a day or so.

Everything that I'm reading says that they will choose to avoid confrontation. If there is any type of miff between your wrasses it shouldnt be anything more than a fin nip. In my opinion you'll be fine with it.

You should be fine depending on the size of your tank. Like said above, the females are more aggressive, but I have always loved the velvet fairy. They keep their color ok, not great, but ok.

The color will get better once established it will also attack most other fairy wrasses if they are smaller

Thanks for all the help. I think Ill give him a try. Just pray I dont have to take everything out to get him out. ;)

Honestly once I put him in my tank I was disappointed with the coloration. I thought its coloration in the store for some reason looked alot more vibrant which is not a usual case. I think there are nicer for the $$ if your patient He was docile though and swam around a lot. BTW I have 2x250 20K helios and 2x54w actinic t5's for coloration reference

i do not like keeping these i have tried 3 times and they are just way too aggressive and i find that they fade alot..there are a few places that have females for sale now and that helps with the color..but i would be worried about it going after the flames how large is your tank??and using a specimen cup will help in aggression
