For you guys who pvc plumbed??

what kind of glue did you use to join your pvc? I got all my plumbing from BRS. Is there a type that is marine safe? I only know if the traditional purple stuff and then glue on it but that seems like a lot of chemicals. Help and/or links of what I should get would be wonderful

Nothing special needed. Reg pvc glue works great and safe

Do yourself a favor, don't use the purple PVC primer. It makes a mess, unless you just like touches of purple where you least expect it. Go with the CLEAR PVC cleaner, if you use cleaner. I always do, but not sure it is actually necessary. Use regular PVC cement (again clear is the way to go here), unless you are bonding PVC to ABS plastic. In that case, use a "transition cement."

The regular stuff is done but give it some time to dry. I think it says 24 hrs for max strength but 6 hrs or so is usually fine.

If your in a hurry, there's a blue glue that is pretty much instant and needs no cleaner or primer. As you can imagine slightly more expensive and harder to find. I had to order it on line when i bought it. It might just be called "blue glue" but i don't recall.

I'm using Gorilla Clear PrimaGlue as recommended to me by Gorilla. It's a primer and glue in one can.

Regular PVC cleaner and cement is fine. However, I would of gone with the clear PVC cleaner as stated above. Not really fond of the purple splotches here and there on my pipes.

Some people don't even use the primer , the purple is for code so the inspector knows they did it right . I always prime though , but I don't care about the purple or am careful not to overdo it.

Blue glue isnt much faster, in plumbing its often used in the event of a broken pipe under pressure. You can use it to glue a ball valve on. Good for wet and under water situations.

Normal blue can hold 50psi plus in minutes

That is a bad idea.

Primer/Cleaner is not to just "clean" the surface. It actually causes a chemical reaction with the PVC and begins to soften it.

Slip fittings are actually tapered inside. They get ever so slightly narrower the deeper into the fitting you go.
With the PVC softened by the primer, it allows the pipe to properly insert into the tapered slip fitting.

Glue alone will not soften the PVC to get a proper insertion/seal.
If you are going to invest the time and money, do it right.
